No hunger

No poverty and no hunger are close together, so Verstegen is working hard on solutions to combat this. Many herb and spice farmers do not have an equal income because they often only have one crop and can therefore only harvest once a year. The rest of the year they have less or no income. This can make them dependent on lenders.

"Verstegen goes for a transparent chain without child labor and strives to ensure that the children of our farmers, suppliers and employees do not work at a young age."

Agroforestry

With the sustainable agricultural system, agroforestry, Verstegen can grow herbs and spices in a sustainable way. The farmer can grow, harvest and sell various products through this agricultural system. The advantages of this are that the farmer is not dependent on one harvest. If one crop fails, the farmer also has other crops that he can make money with. As a result, there is a spread of business risks, which produces a more stable income for the farmer. A more stable income also provides better living conditions for the farmer. This allows the farmers to continue to provide themselves and their families with nutrition all year round.
